Treskha Dogs
Treskha is a small family kennel based in Nottinghamshire under the guardianship of Alan, Helen and Katherine Tress. We have been involved with Elkhounds for almost 20 years, but around dogs for over 40 years; Katherine was a mere 9 months old when our first family dog joined us. Our first pedigree dog joined the family much later in the form of “Tegan”, a Dalmation.
We have owned and currently own a number of Elkhounds each of whom has had success in and out of the show ring. The present members of our Elkhound family are Brighton, Flint, Xyla and Tuğba; they are enjoying family life away from the show ring while being fabulous ambassadors of the breed, something we hold in higher importance than their successes. The longevity and versatility of this breed is one of the characteristics that we are passionate about emphasised by their successes in different disciplines.
Throughout the years, our dogs have moved with us and have lived in a number of countries including the UK, Jersey and Dubai. Each country has added to our learning and experiences with our dogs. UK: introduced to showing, obedience training, rally and agility along with being active therapy dogs. Jersey: educating the dog community about a different breed and helping to set up a successful ringcraft class. Dubai: Learning how to change the long-established fear of dogs one person at a time was really challenging, but also very enlightening. Seeing the look of fear change to happiness and love in the faces of others is so rewarding. Understanding all aspects and views on dog ownership enables us to help others and share our knowledge/experience more widely.
We are constantly seeking ways to improve and increase our knowledge of dogs: in general, training and judging. In terms of judging, we have completed all the necessary requirements to be an Elkhound judge including the Elkhound Judges Development Programme, Points of a Dog, Conformation & Movement, Requirements of a Dog Show Judge and Ring Stewarding. We have both designed and organised the Discover Dogs stand at Crufts to promote the breed to the wider canine population – in 2012 the stand won the Hound Group for both content and display.
For general dog knowledge, we have attended many courses including dog massage, canine first aid, various seminars on working dogs (cadaver), genetics and breeding. Katherine has also qualified as a Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Assessor at both Bronze and Silver Level. We strongly believe dogs should live alongside us in our everyday life as a fully integrated member of the family.
2014 saw the arrival of our first litter, our second litter in 2017 and our most recent litter in January 2021. We have since had a few carefully selected, successful litters from Flint our stud. We are immensely proud of all our puppies and are looking forward to watching their continued success both as loved family pets and in the show ring. We are always striving for type and temperament in our breeding and this will always be our priority.
