Welcome from team Treskha

Not only is this the first website I have been involved in creating, this is also the first blog I have written so bear with me and hopefully they will improve with practice!  A very special friend - with excellent IT & website skills - encouraged the creation of this website after repeatedly hearing Helen and me give advice to others who didn’t know where to turn.

I have been around dogs for over 40 years, but it is only since getting our first Elkhound in 2003 that I really got hooked. As it says in Our Story I have attended many courses on dog ownership, training, healthcare and showing; but I can safely say that a large chunk of my knowledge has come from navigating the negotiation skills that are essential for living with Elkhounds!!!

The amount of information available about owning and living with dogs is vast and I would never consider myself to be an expert - I have so much more to learn.  I have, however, realised that I am in a very lucky position because I have a large number of knowledgeable friends who are willing to help me continue to learn.

With this in mind, I realised that not all dog lovers and owners have access to such a font of knowledge so I hope this website and blog will go some way to be a “one stop shop” for dog related information.  I am often approached by friends and family who are dog lovers but don’t know what to look for in a puppy; are concerned about their own dog or simply have a question about owning a dog.

Thanks to my interest in dogs, I have:

  • Eaten more fur than I will admit

  • Picked up more poo than a shovel

  • Loved more than I realised possible

  • Cried more than I could imagine

  • Spent more than I saved

And I wouldn’t change any of it…..

As I have said, I certainly don’t claim to know everything, but I am always happy to share my knowledge and experience in order to help those wanting to have a dog of their own enjoy them as much as I do.  Please remember there is no such thing as a stupid question - we all have to learn, so please ask.

Let me know in the comments what you would like me to cover in future blogs for example: feeding (raw versus kibble), Elkhound or specific breed traits, training, showing, breeding, choosing a dog…..

Please do not miss out on all things Treskha by following our social accounts

Katherine Tress

Katherine is the “long-distance partner” of the Treskha team as she currently lives and works in Dubai. Whilst not being hands-on daily, Katherine is still very much involved - flying back whenever she can to help with puppies and shows. Being one of the few people that Brighton respects, her place in Treskha is secure!
